A Little Night Music
A story about what happens to love when we tangle it amongst our foolishness and the time that passes. Or maybe about our foolishness throughout time no matter who we love. Or maybe about time passing no matter how foolishly we spend our love. A Little Night Music is a classic Stephen Sondheim musical based on the Ingmar Bergman film 'Smile on a Summer Night' and takes place in Sweden in 1900. The entire beautiful score is written in waltz time. The story deals with the folly of love and relationships with all of its ups and downs. Confusion rules, jealousies flair, sexual passions ignite. The story explores the tangled web of affairs centered around an actress, Desirée, and the men who love her, Fredrik Egerman and Count CarlMagnus Malcolm. When both men and their wives accept an invitation to a weekend in the country with Desirée and her family at her mother’s estate, infinite possibilities of new romances and second chances bring endless surprises, along with a flurry of jealousy and suspicion among Desirée and her guests. This dramatic musical is a celebration of love full of hilariously witty and heartbreakingly moving moments of adoration, regret and desire.
